"Making friends with failure is a solution to a problem.  The difference  between a master and a beginner,

the master has failed more times than the beginner has even tried.

Every great piece of art hides a thousand failed attempts to create it."

The story...

I was contacted by D.W. to construct a "Signature Build" caliber float rod that would include many offerings from my bag of tricks.  My cork cutting jigs received a thorough work out as a result of a grip featuring checkerboards, diamonds, and varying thicknesses of multiple cork rings and stabilized wood inlays.  Twenty hours were dedicated to the wood/cork of the grip alone!   The rod build truly became a labor of love, one of which I enjoyed, but, in all honesty, was exhausting at times testing my patience and determination.  In the end, I am pleased to present a work of art that just happens to double as a fishing implement.  Given the story and theme behind this build (it has personal and sentimental value to the client) I was happy to devote the time and extra effort given the final results.  My hopes are that he will be reminded of the cause that initiated the intent of the build and be affected by positive emotions during its use.
