The story...

The quest to construct the lightest float conversion possible using techniques and that I've picked up over the years may have been achieved with this little gem!  The blank is a favorite among clients because of its length (9 foot), its action (moderate), its blank mass (a mere 1.83 ounces) and its portability (4 piece construction).  The use of flexi-lite guides, natural cork split grip reelseat and handle kit and a minimalist approach to wrapping and finishing, the finished rod weighs in at only 3.19 ounces!  Combine this rod with a 3.5" - 4" centre-pin and the combination could theoretically weigh less than 9 ounces total!  We're talking feather light here!  An attempt at completing a finished rod that weighs in at  less than 3 ounces is planned for the near future..  I'm sure it is possible without sacrificing performance and durability and I've got a good idea on how to accomplish it.  Stay tuned for the next installment mid summer, 2010, with a project name of "Microgravity" seeming to be the most appropriate.
